African-Americans had twice the recall of whites and those under 24 had twice the recall of those over 50. 82% of active users were under 24 and African-American and Hispanic consumers were 50% more likely to be SMS users than white ones. Single people were half again as likely to text as married people.

HD-Quality Mobile Voice Becoming Reality

The use of high definition (HD) mobile handsets, virtually nonexistent in 2010, should begin ramping up 2013 and surge in 2014. Usage of HD mobile handsets, which a barely measurable number of worldwide mobile subscribers began acquiring in 2009, is expected to trickle upward through the rest of this year and the first half of 2011. By the second half of 2011, the North American and Asia-Pacific markets are expected to drive incremental but notable growth in mobile handset usage. However, by the end of 2011, total worldwide users of mobile HD handsets should still total less than 20 million, according to data from ABI Research.

Mobile Phone Owners Misunderstanding 4G

Most smartphone owners do not understand the current state of 4G (fourth generation) mobile phone technology. Although 4G smartphones are available in most global markets, including US carrier Sprint who will introduce a 4G smartphone called HTC EVO in the US, currently no US smartphone provider offers 4G technology. The only 4G technology of any kind currently available in the US is the Sprint WiMax service for laptop and PC internet access, which is limited to certain cities, according research by Compete.

Paid Circulation Newspapers Losing Readers

Newspapers' circulation losses have stopped growing, but the industry still has a ways to go before it finds a new equilibrium. Newspapers' average daily paid circulation over the six months ending in March declined just 8.7% from the equivalent six-month period a year earlier, the Audit Bureau of Circulations said as it issued its biannual circulation report, factoring in just the 602 papers reporting comparable figures for both periods and excluding papers that, for example, shut down in the interim.
