The ranks of U.S. households with a net worth of at least $1 million grew 5% to an all-time high of 9.3 million, according to a report by TNS. The number of millionaire households has increased in each of the past four years, with the biggest growth spurt occurring in 2004, when the number of high-net-worth households jumped 33%. |

Venture capitalists invested $2.8 billion in health care companies during the first quarter of 2007—more funding than we have ever recorded for a single quarter. Total health care VC spending increased by more than 26% during Q1:07, compared with the year-ago quarter, as well as the third and fourth quarters of 2006, each of which saw $2.2 billion raised. There were 134 deals with disclosed prices announced during Q1:07, with the six largest deals each in excess of $60 million. |
