Use 802.11a
Ken, your MacBook supports 802.11a - which operates in the 5 Ghz band, away from Bluetooth, Microwaves, DECT telephones etc.

802.11a also has 19 non overlapping channels, at least in the ETSI (Europe) region, so channel congestion is more or less a non-problem.

The Apple Airport Extreme WiFi Router supports 802.11a - and 802.11n for more speed - on the 5Ghz band, so that is a good choice if you are not too far away.

For better range - and more bulk - look at a Cisco AP1242 with external, directional antennas

Michael
