In a new report commissioned by the Motion Picture Association of America show the U.S. movie studios are losing about $6.1 billion annually in global wholesale revenue to piracy, about 75% more than previous estimated losses of $3.5 billion in hard goods. On top of that, losses are coming not only from lost ticket sales, but from DVD sales that have been Hollywood's cash cow in recent years. In one market, it was calculated that for every bootleg DVD that turned up in raids, seven more existed. Thus, estimates for piracy losses ran from $280 million in China to $275 million in Russia. |

IDC Brasil says that the government sector, taking county, state and federal levels into consideration, expects to increase IT spending by 14% to approximately R$4.9 bln (US$235 mil). The government sector spent R$4.3 bln (US$208 mil) on IT 2004, which made it Brasil's third highest technology investing sector. From this total, the federal government accounted for more than 60% of the investments, focusing its efforts on acquiring analytical enabled tools. |

Latin American Multichannel Subs Will Reach 30 Mil. by 2012 At the end of 2005 there were 21.1 mln Latin American households subscribing to multichannel television in the 19 countries surveyed. Over the next ten years Kagan Research forecasts the number of multichannel households in the region will grow at a 5.6% compounded annual growth rate (CAGR), breaching the 30 mln subscriber mark by 2012 and reaching 36.3 mln in 2015. Among the 19 countries surveyed, Kagan forecasts IPTV economies will develop in Brazil, Argentina, Puerto Rico and Bolivia. |

The worldwide mobile phone market showed continued strength in Q1 2006 with total shipments of 226.7 mln units, representing 26% growth over Q1 2005, according to IDC. Although the market experienced a sequential decline of 7.3% when compared to the record Q4 2005, much of this was due to expected seasonality. Much of the worldwide growth has been attributed to developing markets, which have not only seen an influx of entry-level devices for first-time users, but an increasing interest in mid-range and higher end devices. |

As media continues to fragment, advertisers are looking for a new way to extend their media dollar and to achieve results with consumers. Innovation and experimentation will lead to insights into how to leverage these new digital radio platforms for the more effective media plan. In a recent survey Arbitron found 12% U.S. population has listened to Internet Radio and 27 million Americans have listen to a podcast. A typical podcast attracts a higher concentration of upper-income households, with 22% earning more that $100K per year. Roughly half of teenagers own an iPod or other digital music player. |
